Lick’d is a two-channel video installation that explores the area between pleasure and pain. The work employs a cliche example of pleasure and amplifies it to become an unbearable task. Two cameras, from first and third person perspectives, watch as subject douses their body in chocolate syrup and proceeds to lick it off the body. Yet despite having access to the performer’s experience, the viewer is also denied access to areas of pleasure as many actions are out of camera shot, including the licks. This gives the performer with full autonomy of the pleasurable acts while leaving the viewer with only the discomfort of the evidence on the body.
